Blues for Billie Holiday
About the concert
Blues for Billie Holiday with the Swing Dance Orchestra (Berlin)
Billie Holiday was known for her ability to touch listeners with her voice. The Blues surrounded her, and while she lacked Ella Fitzgerald's range, she had a profound ability to move crowds with her emotional expression of feelings.
This program, starring the Swing Dance Orchestra and singer Rachel Hermlin will turn the spotlight to hits like "Why Was I Born?", "What a Little Moonlight Can Do", "I Cover the Waterfront" as well as Holiday's collaboration with the likes of Lester Young, Count Basey and Artie Shaw, culminating in her penultimate album, Lady in Satin.
