About the concert

Bring your dancing shoes and come for a hot night in 1930s Harlem! During the period called the "Harlem Renaissance", all of New York went "uptown" to hear Duke Ellington at the Cotton Club, dance at the lounge parties to the sounds of virtuoso pianist Fats Waller, and dance at jam sessions until dawn. Led by the trumpet wizard from Paris, Jerome Etcheberry, we will spend a wonderful evening in the spirit of the giants of that time.  On the stage will be 8 musicians and even a couple of swing dancers.

Characterized by its infectious rhythms, improvisations and dance, swing music became the soundtrack of Harlem's social and political scene.  The Savoy Ballroom, a legendary venue, hosted band competitions where musicians such as Benny Goodman, Chick Webb and Duke Ellington competed, creating an electrifying atmosphere. The Savoy and the other big clubs were a melting pot of cultures and ideas, where swing dancers alongside musicians and orchestras expressed and celebrated their art, but also their protest against America's racial segregation.
