The Big Tenors - a Tribute to the sax player Ben Webster
About the concert
A Tribute to Sax Player Ben Webster with The Jonny Boston Quartet (Amsterdam/London)
Ben Webster (born 1907) is considered one of the greatest Tenor Saxophone players. His soft and "whispery" style, romantic vibrato and uncompromising technique were antithetical to his rough lifestyle, where his hot temper often led to arrests. His years in Duke Ellington's orchestra were the most important of his career and influenced Ellington greatly.
His renditions of "Chelsea Bridge" and "Stardust" are still considered masterpieces, and for the New Orleans in Tel Aviv Jazz Festival, the acclaimed Jonny Boston Quartet will showcase the music of this musical legend.
