About the concert
Celebrating 100 years since the birth of Leonard Bernstein with a Latin take on West Side Story!
Leonard Bernstein, nicknamed "Lenny" by his friends, was perhaps the most important American composer of the 20th century. He composed in many different styles and was influenced by both Jazz and Latin music.
One of his most famous pieces was composed for the musical "West Side Story" (look it up on YouTube…) which premiered more than 70 years ago on Broadway and has since been performed worldwide.
Cuban Salsa group Nueva Manteca took the music of this classical production and rearranged it with new Latin rhythm and flare. We will be treated to the instrumental versions of the songs, performed by this sextet, and hope you will join us in dance.
